Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine from India that uses a constitutional model.

The word Ayurveda is composed of two terms, Ayus meaning life and Veda meaning the knowledge or

science. Thus, etymologically, Ayurveda means the science of

life or biology. Medicine apart, various other aspects of

life also come within the purview of Ayurveda. In its broader

perspective it deals with the health and treatment of

diseases of animals and even plants. Thus in ancient India,

there were specialised subjects like asva-ayurveda (for the treatment of horses), gaja-ayurveda (for the treatment of elephants); go-ayurveda (for the treatment of cows) and vriksha, ayurveda (for the treatment of diseases of plants).

Its aim is to provide guidance regarding food and lifestyle so that healthy people can stay healthy and folks with health challenges can improve their health.
